Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Levant
Off the coast of Hyères, three protected islands form the Golden Isles. Porquerolles, the largest, invites a day by bike between Plage Notre-Dame and the vines of the botanical conservatory. Port-Cros, a national park since 1963, offers underwater trails and protected coves. Le Levant, with its village of Héliopolis, keeps a share of mystery. A day out on the islands is always a memorable first date.
Villa Noailles and the old town
Perched above the city, the Villa Noailles, built by Mallet-Stevens for the Roaring Twenties patrons, now houses the famous International Festival of Fashion and Photography. Just below, the old town lines up medieval lanes, Place Massillon and the Barbacane gate. A rich and surprising sequence, perfect for talking about art and taste.
Giens, salt marshes and palm trees
The Giens peninsula, linked to the mainland by two sandbanks framing the Pesquiers salt marshes, offers beaches, views and the harbour of Tour Fondue. Pink flamingos in the salt pans, palm trees of Avenue des Îles d’Or: a very singular setting. On Lyad, members from Hyères share their favourite beaches; it is up to you to find someone to catch the ferry with.
